Can you drink out of the jars after you tint them? I want to use them as water glasses. Even though craft paints, in general, are non-toxic when used for craft projects, they are not considered food-safe. Painting the outside of the jar will allow for safe food storage as long as the food does not come in direct contact with a painted surface. Once the paint has dried the appropriate amount of time and has been baked in the oven, it is very scratch resistant.
It is important that only the outside of the votive holder is painted. Do not paint the inside if using for candles with an open flame! After painting the jars and baking them, are they safe for food storage? And are they washable? After painting the outside of your jars, drying and baking them, they will be top rack dishwasher safe. It is preferable to hand wash hand painted glass items.
Wash in warm soapy water, rinse and let air dry for best results. Crafting is cheaper than therapy, right?

I have a friend that has a mason jar lid with a hole in the center with a rubber thing around the hole, this is so you can enter a straw in the hole. Do you have an idea as to how to make those? I made one years ago but your turtorial is great Linda. So much easier then my messy one.

Thanks for the inspiration! Thank you for sharing your creative ideas on how to turn mason jars into frog lids and tinted glass jars. The mason jar frog lids and tinted glass jars are ideas that can be put to great use. I love these. I am a huge fan of using flower frogs and this idea is great. Curious though, how do you keep the water from diluting your painted jars? Did you paint them on the outside instead of inside, or are they real blue jars? I saw these for sale in a store the other day, but they were very pricey. Love all your creative ideas and projects here Craftaholics Anonymous!
